|Joseph M. Keenan, MD, is a retired Professor from the University of Minnesota Department of Family Medicine, where he was also a joint Professor in the School of Food Science and Nutrition. He has over 50 papers published in peer reviewed scientific journals, and has presented over 150 papers at national and international scientific meetings. He has been a visiting professor at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt and at the Center for Research in Preventive Medicine, in Moscow, Russia.|
|Dr Keenan’s research focus has been in the area of preventive cardiology and nutritional interventions for cardiac risk factor reduction. He received an award for excellence in Research from the Academy of Family Medicine in 1993. His research in the effects of oat beta glucan soluble fiber in cholesterol reduction was pivotal in The United States Food and Drug Administration allowing the first ever functional food health claim.
Dr. Kennan has been listed in “Best Doctors in America” from 1998 to 2009, and “Who’s Who” Best Professional and Executives in America (Dunn and Bradstreet) 2003 to 2011. In 2008 he joined ACUTE CARE, INC., and has been working full time as an Emergency Medicine physician in rural Minnesota hospitals. He has continued to do consulting in his research area of Preventive Cardiology and has presented papers at international conferences in Japan, China, Malaysia, and Thailand.
